Jeani Martini - Oils and Acrylics

I grew up in the hills above Occidental, riding horseback all over the countryside. The great outdoors has always been a part of my life. I started painting in the 70's, but in the 90's I discovered plein-aire painting. It brings me back to the days when I would spend all my time outside, riding horses with my friends.

Painting scenes of Sonoma County and the North Coast makes me realize how lucky I am to live here. It makes me feel inspired. I also paint in my studio when the weather doesn't comply; that's when I paint from photos I take of the horses and cows. So far I can't seem to convince them to pose for me!

I like to paint in oil, because of its versatility, especially painting on location. I also paint in acrylic and watercolor, but I usually save those mediums for studio work. My newest thing is watercolor on stretched canvas; the texture adds an interesting note.

I've had workshops with Ken Auster, Tom Soltesz, Elin Pendleton, Gil Delinger, and most recently with Jerrold Ballaine. I always learn a lot from these workshops, it's fun and keeps me in the loop!
