This is Henry's third class with us and we are very glad to have this wonderful instructor back.

His class will focus on various techniques and styles in drawing human figures with charcoal. (Use of other media in addition to charcoal is welcome.)

Students will be encouraged to find their own way of seeking beauty from each pose and interpret what they found with a personal artistic approach instead of just copying. Beginners to advanced students are welcome.

Henry Yan is an instructor at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and author of Henry Yan's Figure Drawing (Techniques and Tips).

About the instructor

Henry Yan began his art education in China were he was exposed to the great Russian masters. He graduated from college in China as an electrical engineer, but his love of art continued, and eventually he moved to the United States where he studied at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. He counts among his major influences Repin, Levitan, Fechin, and Sargent.

As a full-time teacher, Henry Yan has been teaching many years at AAU, giving classes and workshops focused on figure and portrait drawing and oil painting. Many of his former students have become college art instructors and professionals in art and design industries. His work is held in private collections and galleries worldwide.

With many years' teaching experience and a large collection of art works from classes, he recently completed a book on figure and portrait drawing, Henry Yan's Figure Drawing (Techniques and Tips). The book has been a great success both in US and internationally. It has been on the highest recommendation lists for drawing techniques in many popular art book sellers and art schools.
