In this class, students will learn the Yang style, long form of Tai Chi Chuan, a series of 108 graceful and flowing movements which are both challenging and rewarding. The deep relaxation builds an inner strength and quiets the mind, giving students a sense of peace, which reduces stress.
With sustained Tai Chi practice, your immune system is fortified and you vastly improve your balance and body alignment.
You lengthen and straighten your spine, strengthen your legs, steady your concentration, deepen your breath and improve your energy flow, rejuvenating yourself and creating a healing refuge that is always available to you, with no special equipment necessary.
The class is open to beginners twice a year, when we start from the beginning of the Slow Set (Long Form). Please wear comfortable pants and flat bottomed shoes.
About the Instructor
Justine Rosenthal has been practicing Tai Chi for 24 years, and has taught Tai Chi at Sonoma State University, Community Centers in California and Hawaii, and public schools.
Justine was drawn to Jane Golden's School of Tai Chi when she moved to rural West Sonoma County in the early 1980s. Tai Chi was the answer to her search for a practice that would cultivate both physical and spiritual development. Justine was an athlete, drawn to a physical challenge. She also needed a way to stretch, relax, soften, and meditate. Tai Chi's origins, philosophy and practice resonated with Justine's passion for nature (she had just graduated from UCLA with a degree in Ecosystems: Conservation and Analysis). Tai Chi was yet another way to get closer to feeling and understanding the underlying patterns of nature.
Tai Chi helped Justine strengthen, relax, balance, align, and get in touch with her physical body. Over the years, Tai Chi has been her primary resource for relaxation and healing, while working as a Park Ranger in the National Park Service for 10 years, and then a Teacher in West County elementary schools for the past 10 years. At this stage in her life, she is committed to sharing the gift of the Tai Chi Practice with the Gualala area community.
