Join Suzi Marquess Long as she dons her smock and whips up a visual confection of shadows and lights, brights and subtles, skillful compositions and combinations of colors that all look good enough to eat!

Suzi Marquess Long: Into the Mystery We'll do some painting outside if weather permits. Each day you'll see a demo and learn lots of tricks with a sprinkling of necessary rules. You'll create a painting from your own photo or one provided, and we will paint outside weather permitting. Suzi will help and encourage you as you paint, and give pointers on composition, color, value, contrast, and lots more. Gentle, constructive critique will close each day.

My goal is to give you the instruction you need to create your own finished painting in about two hours. You start to feel a rhythm and flow as you watch your hand put down the right colors in the right places. It's like magic. Joyful. Delicious! Takes practice, just like everything else!

About Suzi Long

Suzi Marquess Long: Dahlia Garden Suzi was born in Santa Cruz and was at one time a Xerox technician, word processor and manuscript editor, who began her working life as an executive secretary at Syntex Laboratories after graduating in 1967 from Katharine Gibbs School, NY. Suzi painted hundreds of home and restaurant murals in Northern California with her company Whimsy Walls, beginning in 1979. In 2001, she found her passion in pastels.

Suzi is very grateful to have the talent and skill to convey the beauty she sees around Northern California. She has accumulated many ribbons for her work, including a Best of Show and a People's Choice award, but she is most grateful to her patrons and collectors. A three-time breast cancer survivor, she came to this area to house-sit in 2005 and now has her own gallery in the old Wind & Weather watertower in Mendocino where she paints for her life.
