Create your own original seascape wall quilt. Learn about essential design principles.

This workshop is suitable for new and experienced quilters with patterns available for those who are not confident to make their own designs. We'll be creating a fabric collage using fused or traditional appliqué, free-motion machine embroidery and thread painting, stamping and stenciling with fabric paints, foiling, embellishing with Angelina and beads, yarn (couching) and bobbin-drawing.

Materials List

Seascapes Fabric pieces (fat quarter size) including cottons, satins and organzas (maybe some prints that remind you of coral or sea weed). You will need one yard of background "water" fabric. Hand-dyed "water" fabric will be available for sale during the workshop, $20/yard. Embellishments (threads, ribbons, yarn and beads). 2 yards of fusible web such as Wonder Under, Steama- Seam, Aleene's Fusible Web. Small piece of stabilizer. paper & pencil. Sewing supplies including scissors, pins, machine embroidery threads (Teflon pressing sheet).

For the fast workers ... a sewing machine in good working order. It doesn't have to be a fancy machine as long as you can either lower or cover the feed dogs for free-motion embroidery and quilting. I recommend using Topstitch or embroidery needles for this project. A darning foot is a must too.

Some irons + ironing boards are needed also. No special needs for stamping with fabric paints, just access to water (sink in restroom).
