Audition Material Available for Art Center Theater's Winter Show

If you were in the cast of a previous Art Center Theater winter show, you will remember the hard work and fun of building a theatrical family that creates an entertaining play. If you were in the audience, you may have wished you were on the stage! Now is your chance! Check out our winter 2006 production: The Secret Garden, a Tony Award winning musical by Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon. Based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, it has hauntingly beautiful music and an intriguingly, life affirming tale.

Interested in auditioning? Here are the details:

• There are singing and non-singing roles for men, women and children (age 9 and older). Previous experience is not required. Although the roles of Dickon and Martha are played by adults in the Broadway version, we will adapt them for portrayal by young people between the ages of approximately 12 to 15. The part of Dickon can be played by either a girl or a boy. The children's roles are possibly the best we have ever offered!
• The Secret Garden will be performed December 8, 9, 10 and December 15, 16, 17.
• Private coaching appointments for leads will be available in August.
• Music rehearsals begin in October.
• Production rehearsals start November 1.
• Auditions are scheduled for August 12 and 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gualala Arts Auditorium. You will be asked to read from the script and, if auditioning for a singing role, to sing.
• If call backs are required, they will be August 14 at 5:00 p.m.
• Scripts/scores are ready for your review on June 1. We are making this media available early so that if you plan to try out for an adult lead role of Lily, Archibald and Dr. Craven or a child's lead part of Mary Lennox, Colin, Dickon or Martha - you will have time to learn a song from the show for auditions.

Art Center Theater winter productions take months of planning before we ever get to auditions, much less to rehearsals and performance. Although it is only June, we are gearing up! The Secret Garden is a fabulous show, with amazing music! It promises to be one of our best productions yet! You don't want to miss being a part of it!
